Beyond the 9-to-5

Side Projects

The things I build for fun. When not working on commerce apps I enjoy game dev and chasing million-dollar ideas while learning new technologies.

Live Sports Scoreboard

Live Demo

REST API showcase: real-time scores plus a 2026 World Cup tracker

A working demo of my REST API skills: Next.js Route Handlers proxy and normalize live ESPN feeds for the NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, and the FIFA World Cup, including a day-by-day schedule and a projected knockout bracket built from current group standings.

Voxel Plaza

Live Demo

WebGL showcase: a shared, persistent voxel world built with three.js

Think r/place in 3D: every visitor builds on the same map, and edits appear on everyone's screen in real time. One InstancedMesh draws the whole world in a single call, Server-Sent Events keep every tab in sync, and an authoritative rate-limited API keeps the plaza civil. Whatever you build stays for the next visitor.

TickerFlow: Crypto Ticker

Live Demo

Data engineering showcase: Kafka, Flink, and Spark behind a live ticker

A full lambda-architecture pipeline: Coinbase and Binance trade feeds ingested through Kafka, processed in real time by Apache Flink into 1-minute candles, rolling VWAP, and cross-exchange spread alerts with exactly-once semantics, then reconciled nightly against an Apache Spark batch recompute over Iceberg tables. This ticker is the visible tip of it.

StoryTime

In Development

Create, illustrate & publish children's books

An end-to-end platform for creating, illustrating, and publishing children's books. StoryTime takes an author from a blank page through AI-assisted illustration to a finished book, print-ready and digital, so a first-time storyteller can actually get published.

Portfolio built on Next.js, React, and Tailwind

This site itself is a little side project I put together to get more experience with Next.js and to give myself a hub for all of my future projects. I host it on a Digital Ocean droplet along with a variety of other apps. It also includes a Portfolio Assistant, a streaming chat demo built on Claude that answers questions about my experience.

Water Park Tycoon

Prototype

2D isometric water-park management sim

A management sim in the RCT1 tradition: design a park, lay paths, drop shops and pools, and design custom water slides piece by piece. An excercise in multiple complex systems running at once, as well as player building tools.
